Our main-intake year at the College is Year 7 for both boys and girls, with limited availability at all other year levels. Priority for enrolment is given to:
- Siblings of current College students
- Children or grandchildren of College Alumni
- Applicants with other family connections to Saint Kentigern
We recommend submitting your application at least two years ahead of your intended entry year. Please be aware that due to the high number of applications received, not all students will be granted an interview or a place at the College. The main intake year at the College are Years 7 for both boys and girls, followed by Year 9, then with limited availability at other year levels. The College role is at capacity at the start of each academic year; however, there is sometimes movement in the role over the summer break, which may result in a few places becoming available.
We recommend that applications be received two years in advance of the entry year. Please note that we always have many more applications than places available, so we encourage families to plan ahead.
Do I need to apply years in advance?
You can apply up to three years before your intended entry year. We recommend submitting your application at least two years ahead of your intended entry year to ensure a smooth and successful enrolment process.
Is enrolment possible mid-year?
Under exceptional circumstances we will consider midyear enrolments, should there be space in the required year level. However, we prefer not to enrol students’ mid-year as the transition to an established class can be more difficult and can be disruptive for current students and teaching staff. Most of the curriculum is also taught in Terms 1 and 2 which means the new student will have missed a lot of learning.
Is testing required for application?
No testing is required as part of the application process. Students in Years 7-9 that have been accepted to start at the College will be invited to attend a New Entrant Orientation Day, where testing will take place. For Years 10-13 reports are reviewed, and referral forms may be sent to the students current school.
When do interviews take place?
Interviews for families with students currently at the College will take place in Term 4, 15 months prior to the entry year. For all other families interviews will be scheduled in Term 1, 2 or 3 of the year prior to entry. Please note, as we receive more applications than places available, not every student will be offered an interview and may be placed in a wait pool. College Admissions will provide regular updates regarding available places in each year level.
Are scholarships available?
Saint Kentigern College Scholarships are awarded to students looking to join the College in Years 9-11who would not otherwise have the opportunity to attend the College.
Applications are invited from students who:
- demonstrate excellence in Academics, Performing Arts, Sports, and/or a combination of these, i.e.: All-Round talent
- would uphold the Saint Kentigern values and have a positive attitude
- have a clear vision of how they see themselves in the future and the contribution they would like to make to the College and wider community
Can we visit the campus?
We encourage interested families to attend our Open Day in March or scheduled campus tours in Terms 2 or 3. Registering for these events is appreciated, and personal tours can be arranged for those visiting from out of town.
What academic pathways are available?
Students can choose between the New Zealand Qualification NCEA or the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB). Year 11 students complete NCEA Level 1 qualifications. Year 12 students can continue with NCEA at Level 2 or pursue the two-year International Baccalaureate Diploma programme.

Our class sizes are usually 24 or fewer, with a maximum of 26 (depending on their choice of subject, some class sizes may be much smaller).
Students in Years 9-13 are placed in small Tutor Groups of approximately 15 -18 students for their daily pastoral care.

The programme emphasises high academic standards in the mandatory areas of literature, a second language, mathematics, humanities, and science. Academic excellence is coupled with emphasis on personal development in areas such as research, philosophy, and social awareness. It is aimed at all students with a strong work ethic.
