Year 12 College Student selected for the NZSS Symphony Orchestra

February 24, 2015 at 3:12 PM

Congratulations to talented Year 12 cello player, Emily Young who successfully auditioned for a place in the New Zealand Secondary School Symphony Orchestra. Emily will join other talented, young musicians from across the country for a week long workshop in Christchurch during the next school holidays.

Meeting for the first time, the students will work with Chief Conductor of the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, Mr Benjamin Northey, as he brings the newly-formed orchestra to performance level in a short space of time.  With three major works to learn - Festival Overture by Shostakovich, Cello Concerto by Elgar and the Saint-Saëns Organ Symphony – Emily will have a busy week, leading to a public performance at St Margaret's College in Christchurch on Friday 17 April. If you are in Christchurch during the holidays, this promises to be a fantastic concert and Emily would love your support!

Emily is not only a talented instrumentalist, but also a fine vocalist. She is keeping her fingers crossed that her audition with the New Zealand Secondary School Choir will be equally successful when they announce the names in March.

Well done and good luck Emily!
