Win With Words Writing Competition

August 07, 2015 at 12:00 PM

Congratulations to the four boys who were chosen as finalists in this year’s annual Win With Words writing competition hosted by Remuera Library and sponsored by Westpac Bank and the Orakei Local Board.

Students in Year 7 and 8 who live in or attend a school in the Local Board area are eligible to submit a piece of original prose of less than 500 words. As well as the age group competition, students could also write to a specific theme; this year, the ANZACs, New Zealand Heritage or Remuera district.

At last night’s award ceremony, Year 7 students, Matthew Chandler and Darcy Houston, and Year 8 students, John Hayman and Luke O’Neill, had excerpts from their entries read out and received feedback from this year’s judge, acclaimed author, Rosemary Tisdall.

Matthew, Darcy and John were awarded Highly Commended for their writing and received book vouchers. Special congratulations to Luke who was awarded 2nd place in the Year 8 section for his humorous, descriptive writing about ‘M15 Agent 00DIRT – The Cleaner!

This was a special evening that acknowledged excellence in creative writing providing inspiration to our students to continue to write for the sheer love of words. .
