Strong Results for College Rowers

As the business end of the rowing season nears, our College rowers have achieved impressive results in recent regattas. Last weekend’s Junior Regatta at Lake Karapiro, also known as the KR3, is the final competitive meet ahead of the North Island Secondary School Championships. The College Rowing Club was at full strength and made 19 A finals, 7 B finals as well as the following podium results:
1st Boys’ U17 Eight
1st Boys’ U17 Four
2nd Boys’ U18 Lightweight Four
3rd Girls’ U17 Four
3rd Boys’ U17 Four
At last month’s Head of Harbour regatta, the College was represented by more than 78 rowers. Schools use this regatta to determine if their crews are fast enough to travel down to Twizel to compete in the New Zealand Secondary School Championships (Maadi Cup), so it provides a good gauge as most are near their top form in terms of boat speed. On the back of strong improvement in the weeks leading up, our crews medalled in these events:
1st Girls’ U18 Lightweight Four
1st Boys’ U17 Eight
2nd Boys’ U18 Single (Oliver Rhodes)
2nd Girls’ U16 Four
2nd Boys’ U17 Four
3rd Boys’ U15 Four
Congratulations to all our rowers and coaches. We look forward to the Club being back on the water at Lake Karapiro on March 18-20 for the North Island Secondary School Championships.
