Silver Ferns For Musicians

May 16, 2016 at 11:20 AM

At full school assembly on Friday, two musicians received Silver Ferns for their selection and performance with national music groups.

At the end of 2015 following an audition by video, Thomas Scott was selected for the New Zealand Secondary Schools’ Symphony Orchestra (NZSSSO) as one of seven trumpet players.  Thomas sat in the second seat of the section confirming his exceptional level of musical ability. The orchestra rehearsed in Christchurch during the April holidays and gave a public performance of a number of works including Holst’s Famous ‘Planets.’

Emily Young was a recipient of a Silver Fern in 2015 for her selection in the NZSSSO and this year substantiated her exceptional musical ability by being chosen for the New Zealand Secondary Students’ Choir, earning a second Silver Fern. The choir performed in Wellington for ANZAC Day Celebrations and will travel on a three-week concert tour to Canada, representing New Zealand.

Well done to Thomas and Emily!
