July 13, 2016 at 8:32 AM

Cyclists from the College claimed individual and team titles at the North Island Secondary School Championships! A large contingent of students represented Saint Kentigern at the NISS event, competing on the roads around Lake Karapiro and also on the track at the Avantidrome in Cambridge. The competition started with the 16km Team Time Trial, in which our Senior Girls’ team of Lizzie Mudford, Maddy Park Simone Nightingale, Kate Fouche and Jamie Lindsay won gold! The girls finished six seconds ahead of St Peter’s (Cambridge) with Baradene in third. The Junior Boys’ team were narrowly edged into the silver medal position, crossing the line four seconds back from Hamilton Boys’ High. The Year 7/8 Girls’ team also came with silver in a battle with Baradene.

Day two saw our riders compete in the road races ranging from 26.6 to 54.8km. In the U16 Boys’ category, Dylan McCullough won gold, Maddy Park won bronze in the U19 Girls and Sophie Spencer was also second in the U13 Girls. Sophie added to her silver medal tally in the 8km criterium with Callum Walsh taking home bronze in the 12.8km U16 Boys race.

On the track, Callum Walsh was second in the U16 Boys’ Elimination race and third in the Points race, while Ben Connell placed third in the U14 Boys’ Points and Elimination races.

Congratulations to all those who competed and especially to our medal winners!
