Remuera Speech Contest Win for Girls' School

Madelaine Freeland is known for a wicked sense of humour at the Girls’ School, along with the well-honed ability to deliver a winning speech. Having wowed the judge at the School Speech competition earlier in the week, Madelaine went on to win the Year 7&8 Remuera Zone Speech Competition this morning with her humorous speech entitled, ‘Why parents can get it horribly wrong.’ This was a tongue in cheek look at some of the sillier things that parents say or do when trying to raise their children to be model citizens – sometimes parents don’t quite get it right!

Madelaine was competing against a very strong field and we are thrilled with this result. She will now represent the Remuera Zone at the Auckland Champion of Champions Event and will also join Zara Smith (Year 6) at the Remuera Lions Speech Competition.

Speech making is highly valued at the Girls’ School and an excellent standard of public speaking across the age ranges is evident. The girls have been successful at the zone competitions each year they have entered.

Congratulations also to Jack Sandelin from the Boys’ School who was awarded 3rd place.
