Promising Start to Rowing Season

Wet weather greeted the College rowers for the first regatta of the 2015/2016 season at Lake Pupuke. Saint Kentigern was well represented with crews entered in a large number of the events.
Racing at Lake Pupuke is a short-course sprint format which makes for great viewing and close racing. The events give the squads opportunities to try different combinations in boats to see how fast they are in pressure racing situations which form part of the selection process throughout the season.
Notable results from both boys and girls crews were:
Boys
U18 Eight Final – 1st
U17 Eight – 1st
U17 Four 1st
U18 Double Sculls – 2nd
Club Eight – 2nd
Girls
U18 Four – 1st
U17 Four – 3rd
U16 Quad – 3rd
The rowing club now moves onto a four-week training stretch before the next regatta, with the focus on long-distance rows with a technique focus and selection of crews for upcoming regattas.
