Programming Challenge

September 02, 2016 at 2:27 PM

Earlier this week, four of our Year 10 girls attended the 2016 Programming Challenge for Girls at Auckland University of Technology. This is an annual event held in various venues throughout New Zealand, and internationally for the purpose of introducing Year 10 girls to computer programming.

We had two teams of two students attending, which is the maximum number allocated to each school. The day included a workshop in the programming language called Alice, specifically designed for high school girls by Carnegie Mellon University. There was also an exciting opportunity to hear from young women who work as computing professionals at PushPay, Orion Health and Xero. It was a great opportunity for our girls to connect with other girls their age and women in industry to demystify what a career in computing might entail.
