Olympic Ambassador Visits College Year 7 & 8s

April 07, 2014 at 4:45 PM

Olympic Ambassador and New Zealand Black Stick hockey player, Shea McAleese visited the College this week to talk to our Year 7 & 8 students on excelling on and off the pitch. Shea’s visit was a timely one, with many Middle School sports team trials currently taking place, and an upcoming Social Studies focus on the July/August Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

Shea spoke with passion on the special moment of winning a bronze medal at the London Olympic Games in 2010, and told our youngest students he was only five years old when he announced to his Dad that he wanted to be in the Olympics! He encouraged our students to dare to dream and said that if you set goals, push yourself every day and have the courage to make mistakes, and learn from them, you can achieve anything.

The Olympic Ambassador Programme inspires young New Zealanders through our role model Olympians who are living the Olympic Values. In sharing their sporting, Olympic and life experiences, they deliver key messages and examples to inspire and motivate youth to live the Olympic Values through sport and life in general, to participate and achieve, and to be the best they can be.
