Congratulations to Year 12 student, Josh Oxenham who won the New Zealand U19 Downhill title at the National Mountain Bike Championships held in Cardrona recently.
With this National title, Josh has automatic selection into the New Zealand Downhill U19 team and will be racing in the Downhill World Championships to be held in Cairns, Australia in September this year. Josh will also be racing in the World Cup and Crankworx races in Europe wearing the New Zealand race jersey.
A keen Downhill rider, Josh says that stepping up to the U19 class this year at the age of 16 has proved a challenge, but he has proved that age is only a number!
Josh has worked incredibly hard through the season to achieve this result, assisted by his selection to ride in the newly formed New Zealand Cycling High Performance team, which supports his ambition with training camps, training programmes and soon-to-be support overseas. This is whilst balancing his training with the demands of NCEA Level 2 requirements.
