The morning of the National Duathlon Championships held in Taupo dawned clear but bitterly cold for our duathletes. The College fielded a team of 16 with high hopes for a day of competition which, unlike the triathlon, only includes a bike and run leg – and thankfully not a swim!
After some fast, competitive racing, the day finished with a total of four podium placings – a gold and three silvers!
Congratulations to Dylan McCullough who took the National Title with style in the U13 event. In a completely convincing win, Dylan finished 2mins 18secs ahead of his nearest rival, resulting in a gold medal performance! Well done Dylan!
In the U14 individual event, George Ellett showed the field his fine running form which saw him finish in second place overall, with a silver medal for his efforts.
The U16 team comprising Tom Lott on the bike and Michael Wood on the run, raced their way to second place in the team event.
To finish the day, Maddy Evans placed second in the U19 Girls, finishing her school triathlon career on a high with a silver medal!
These weren’t the only Saint Kentigern medals. Recent Old Collegian, Matthew Franklin, finished 2nd overall and first in the Elite U23 category!
