‘MAGS DAY’ Results in a Draw!

August 08, 2016 at 11:23 AM

Our premier teams look forward to ‘MAGS Day’ each year; a sporting Saturday when six teams from Saint Kentigern take on teams from Mount Albert Grammar for a day of keen, well-matched competition!

This year it was the turn of Mount Albert to host Saint Kentigern, on a bitterly cold day with a biting wind funneling up from the ski fields! Along with the freezing conditions, the heavy rain of the past week made for very tough conditions underfoot, making for hard-fought field games.

Girls’ Premier Netball were first to compete. Competition between these two teams has been tough over the years but on Saturday, it was our girls who took a nail-biting lead by one goal 37-36! Girls’ Football and Basketball followed, both won by MAGS.

Our Football team redressed the balance with a 2-1 win. In the last event of the day, the 1st XV held on in an incredibly tight game, eventually resulting in an 8-3 win. The 1st XV now qualify for next week’s Auckland semi-final.

Both schools were competing for the Burden Cole Trophy, but with three wins apiece, this year the day of competition was declared a draw and the trophy was shared.

The teams would like to thank all those who came out in support on such a cold day!
