Legendary Sailor Inspires Students

Barbara Kendall, one of New Zealand’s greatest sporting stars, was the perfect person to inspire the Middle School students at the College ahead of their upcoming week of adventure! The Year 10 students are heading to Field Centre in Tongariro National Park while the Year 7-9 boys and girls have a jam-packed schedule of academic and sporting activities to test them on campus. Mrs Kendall spoke at the Middle School assembly of her journey to becoming a five-time Olympian and multiple medal winner during her sporting career that spanned three decades! She reminded the students to follow their dreams, set goals, and work hard to achieve them.

Her advice was applicable to all fields of life, and she detailed her achievements off the water, including completing a double degree and being elected to and sitting on a number of commissions of the International Olympic Committee. Following her motivating speech, the Middle School sailors were lucky to get their photo with the windsurfing legend. A huge thanks to Mrs Kendall and best of luck to the students as they push their limits in their various quests!
