House Running Relays For The Boys' And Girls' Schools

November 24, 2014 at 8:36 AM

A sunny Friday afternoon saw waves of blue, red, green and yellow descend on the Boys’ School field as the Girls’ School joined the boys for the annual House Running Relays. In an afternoon that included both fun and determined racing, competitors from Years 0-8 took to the field in their teams of four while the rest joined in the cheering from the bank.

It was a lively event full of racing, swift – and not so swift - baton changeovers and much cheering and chanting as each year group ran their hardest for their house.

Of course, no House Sporting event would be the same without input from our Chaplain! On these occasions, however, Reverend Hardie is not leading the boys and girls in prayer but offering his best 1970’s YMCA steps to lead the Houses in riotous dance sequences! Head of Primary, Dr Sandra Hastie, is generally guaranteed to be not too far behind!

The racing finished with one final competition that filled each lane: the best of the boys v. the best of the girls v. boys’ staff v. girls’ staff v. boys’ parents v. girls’ parents. The boys’ staff looked like they were going to romp home but Reverend Hardie faltered, kindly, in the last leg to let the boys take the lead!

And to the winners! Cargill took the podium for the boys with Hamilton taking the spot for the girls. Congratulations to everyone who ran and all the students who encouraged and cheered them on, you are all winners!
