Hamilton Wins College Cross Country!

With very little rain in the preceding days, the entrants in the College Cross Country, which included the Year 7 & 8 students from the Girls’ School, once again experienced great conditions for off-road running! Firm conditions underfoot and clear skies overhead made for fast times by the competitors, aided by plenty of support from family and friends on the sidelines. This annual event, originally a steeplechase, has been held at the College from the year it was founded, 1953, when mud, fences and farmland provided the ideal course. While the fences and paddocks are long gone, replaced by lush sports fields, the mix of steep hills and long inclines still present a stern challenge for even the most accomplished athletes. Racing on courses ranging from 2km to 6km depending on age, those who had eyes on the podium places, and the chance to represent the College in wider competitions, had put in weeks of hard training in preparation. For others, the event offered a chance to set a personal best, and contribute to the inter-House championship. Congratulations to the champions and those who achieved podium places, and to Hamilton for taking the overall title!
