The College Big Band and Jazz Combo continued the excellent run of competitive success that the Music Department has enjoyed this year by winning Gold Awards and making the final of the Auckland Jazz and Blues Club’s ‘2017 Auckland Secondary School Jazz Band Competition.’
Following the heats held over two weekends, both the Saint Kentigern groups were chosen for the finals. Whilst the Big Band were finalists in 2016, this was a first for the Jazz Combo and joining the Big Band to win two of four final places from a line-up of 25 bands was a significant achievement.
The competition was held at the Point Chevalier RSA and judged by New Zealand jazz legend, Roger Fox. Our thanks to Mr Paul Norman who directed four of the nine finals bands.
The College music groups will be taking part in the annual KBB Music Festival this week at the Holy Trinity Cathedral. They would love your support.
