Gold and Silver for Boys’ School Music Groups

It was a proud moment for the Boys’ School music groups when the awards were announced at this year’s Lewis Eady Junior Music Contest - the Jazz Band and Jazz Combo were awarded Gold and the Recorder Minstrels received silver.

Established in 2008 to ‘better serve and support emerging talent and music education within New Zealand’ the Lewis Eady Charitable Trust organises an annual contest for Primary/Intermediate age musicians. It offers a performance opportunity for children at all levels of musical achievement with the aim to encourage young musicians to increase confidence and gain valuable experience performing to an audience.

The contest adjudicators also provide constructive and encouraging written comments for the performers to allow them to understand where their strengths lie and what areas could be worked on. This year the judges commented on the polished and confident performance of the Jazz Band with their rendition of ‘Tequila.’ The Jazz Combo who performed ‘Song for my Father’ were described as engaging and entertaining and the Kentigern Minstrels gave a ‘lively’ performance of ‘Tangalypso.’

Since its inception, the Boys’ School has traditionally done well at this competition and were delighted to be recognised once again for the quality of the music programme. Well done boys!
