Girls’ School Year 8 Leavers’ Scarf Ceremony 2020

Life beyond the Girls’ School gates became more surreal for the Year 8 students today at their Leavers’ Scarf Ceremony. The Chapel filled with the girls’ family and friends as they celebrated the end of one journey for the girls – being leaving the Girls’ School and beginning of another – their college years.

Nervous smiles and tears could be seen and heard as Principal, Juliet Small thanked everyone for attending and called the names of the girls who would receive their scarfs from our youngest, Year 0 students – a customary tradition where the younger girls thank their role models.

Ms Small encouraged the girls to wear their homemade, silk scarfs with pride as they are embodied with symbols that signify the tale of Saint Kentigern - the bird that never flew, the tree that never grew, the bell that never rang and the fish that never swam – along with the Iona Cross.

She then concluded the ceremony by wishing the girls the best of luck and stating, ‘wherever you are next year, remember us at Saint Kentigern Girls’ School and remember that you will always be a daughter of Kentigern.’

We wish the Year 8 leavers all the best for their next adventures!
