Footballers off to World Cup

October 07, 2015 at 9:30 AM

There is a large contingent of Saint Kentigern representation in the New Zealand team selected for the FIFA U17 World Cup in Chile later this month. Four 1st XI players – Dane Schnell, Liam Williams, Reuben Clark and Ben Mata – have been named in the squad. This is a record number of players in the team from the College, after three were chosen for the previous U17 World Cup: Matthew Ridenton, Michael Den Heijer and Nick Forrester. Our 1st XI coach, Mr Chris Zoricich, is the NZ assistant coach, and Ben will captain the side.

The team left for Chile yesterday and will build up to the tournament with matches against Mexico and South Africa, ahead of their opening pool match against European champions France on October 20 (NZ time). The Kiwis will also face Syria and Paraguay in their pool. All of the games will be broadcast live on Sky Sport. Good luck to the team and especially our Saint Kentigern players and coach!
