Family Favourites on Shore Road for Grandparents Day

After the enormous task of raising your own children is complete, your grown-up children flee the nest and begin their own families, a wonderful privilege is bestowed upon you. The title of ‘grandparent’ is one of the highest honours and is arguably the most enjoyable position on the family tree.

Recognising the immense joy that grandparents bring into our lives, the boys invited these fun-loving family members to join them for a morning at school. Principal Mr Peter Cassie, with earnest enthusiasm, welcomed our guests and treated them to a brief assembly featuring musical performances by the boys. Mr Cassie proudly shared that he too had recently joined the prestigious ‘grandparent club’ as his son welcomed a beautiful baby girl into the world. As expected, he has grand plans for her, and she will benefit from having a grandfather who knows a thing or two about school life.

Following the warm introduction, the grandparents were sent to their boys various classrooms. As they walked through the grounds, the music from the pipes and drums welcomed them in classic Saint Kentigern style.

Some classes had prepared performances for their guests, others took the time to show their personal work from the year. Our guests took great delight in wandering the learning spaces, looking at the art and writing that covers the walls, representative of a packed year of learning. In the Middle School quad, some grandparent-child duos challenged each other to a game of pickleball or outdoor chess, putting the equipment to good use.

To finish the morning in true grandparent style, a morning tea was laid out for the boys to serve their grandparents. After the endless baking, hot chocolates, and meals they have undoubtedly made for the boys, our students were delighted to play host and give back to the people who’ve done so much for them. Grandparents, we hope you know how much we love you and appreciate you.
