Double Win for Boys at Zone Speeches!

September 07, 2017 at 2:46 PM

It was a double win for the Boys’ School at this morning’s Year 7 and 8 Remuera Zones Speech Competition held at St Cuthbert’s College. Having won their respective competitions at school, George Beca went on to represent the Boys’ School in the Prepared Speech with Ben Poole contesting the Impromptu Speech.

In a field of ten schools from the Remuera Zone, both boys displayed a natural gift for public speaking as they wowed the judges.

Recognising the traits of good leadership proved to be a winning formula for George. With great stage presence, he said he has come to recognise that not all leaders are good leaders and as 12 year olds, they have much to aspire to as they learn to make the world a better place.

Whilst George’s speech was prepared and learned well ahead of time for delivery, Ben’s task was a little trickier! Competing in the Impromptu section, Ben was given just five minutes to prepare a speech on ‘Three Things he would change in the World.’ In an election year, Ben discussed immigration, housing and the job situation in NZ; thoughts he shared with great expression and good structure.

Congratulations to both George and Ben for their fantastic achievements this morning and good luck for the next round of competition.
