College Triumph at 'Battle of The Saints' Theatresports

In a massively entertaining night, the College recently hosted the 3rd annual ‘Battle of The Saints’ Theatresports competition where our Premier Theatresports players defeated St Cuthbert’s College and Dilworth School.
It was a highly anticipated event, given that Saint Kentigern and Dilworth finished 2nd and 3rd respectively in the Auckland Theatresports competition last year, in which 22 schools competed.
The evening was filled with clever improvisation, with some great character moments. Drama Teacher, Mr David Sheehan was a witty MC on the night and urged the teams to explore current issues such as, ‘What makes Vladamir Putin so grumpy?’, and ‘What will Kim Dotcom do if he becomes Prime Minister?’
Highlights included Tate Steel playing the entire ‘Little Red Riding Hood’, including a grumpy arthritic grandma, as a solo performance. Cameron Teare was a convincing homicidal Mickey Mouse and Carlos Webster was very witty as Vladamir Putin seeking understanding; ‘I am not as nasty as you people think I am…’ Mitchell Fissenden contributed a tumble weed reprise and Sarah McQueen was a very animated performing donkey.
The winning team on the night were the Saint Kentigern team of Carlos Webster, Ryan Stickland and Kurt Hawkins, who defeated Dilworth and another Saint Kentigern team in a ‘Death in a Minute’ tie breaker which was set in Australia featuring a BBQ disaster.
The night was also a very successful fundraiser for our College World Vision Malawi project, raising $300.00 towards improved sanitation in an impoverished school.
Next term the College will be hosting arch rivals Kelston Boys in another hilarious night of Theatresports improvisation, so keep an eye on the School calendar for this great event!
