College Prefect Team Commissioned
February 02, 2018 at 3:59 PM
At full school assembly today, our Senior College prefects for 2018 were commissioned with both the Middle College and Senior College students in attendance. This year, we congratulate Laura Porteous and George Shirtcliffe, whose leadership skills, self-confidence, hard work and pride in the College have seen them appointed as this year’s Head Prefects. Both Laura and George have committed themselves fully to their academic, co-curricular and service endeavours during their time here. They have both demonstrated the potential to fulfil the Saint Kentigern Vision to ‘lead and serve with distinction.’
Laura and George will be supported by Hannah Williams and Benjamin Staite who have been selected as Deputy Head Prefects, as well as an extended team that includes Academic, Chapel, Art, Service and Sports Prefects, and House Leaders.
The selection process for prefect roles at the College is lengthy and thorough to ensure the best team of students with complimentary talents and skills are selected to represent the student body. These students are often ‘all-rounders’ who have taken every advantage of our ‘world of opportunity.’
Congratulations to all the students who have been appointed as prefects for 2018!
HEAD GIRL
LAURA PORTEOUS
Laura has been at Saint Kentigern since Year 9. Her empathetic approach and well developed leadership skills allows her to get the most out of the people around her, while making them feel included and confident. Laura leads by example and applies herself to all that she attempts. Outside the classroom, Laura is a member of the Photography and Tramping Clubs, and is also a member of our girls’ choir, The Musettes. Laura has been involved with makeup and costumes for the Senior College musical production and plays netball for the College. She has completed her Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award and is working towards achieving her Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award. Last year, Laura led a very effective Young Enterprise Team.
Laura is happy to lead from the front, or build capacity within others to lead. She has done, and will continue to do Saint Kentigern proud.
HEAD BOY
GEORGE SHIRTCLIFFE
George joined the Saint Kentigern family in Year 7. He is a confident and caring young man who understands the need to lead by example and the concept of servant leadership - to lead by serving others for a greater good. George brings his determination and strong work ethic to his classroom work where he gained an Excellence Endorsement in both NCEA Level 1 and Level 2.
George is involved in a wide co-curricular programme, playing football and running with the College running club to stay fit. He also enjoys the arts, playing the drums in a College Band and learning the guitar. He has been involved with Theatresports as both a player and coach.
George is an approachable young man who sets people at ease quickly. He has an enduring quest to better himself which will no doubt play a vital role in his year as Head Boy and beyond
DEPUTY HEAD PREFECTS: HANNAH WILLIAMS AND BENJAMIN STAITE
Laura and George will benefit from the support of two strong Deputy Head Prefects. Hannah and Ben are vibrant and energetic young people who are well organised in their daily lives. They are both attentive to their academic studies, most recently gaining an Excellence Endorsement in Level 2. Hannah plays netball and volleyball, works backstage in productions and is working towards her Duke of Edinburgh Gold. Ben has displayed considerable talent in basketball where he is a member of the Premier Basketball team. He is also working towards his Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award.
