An assortment of influential people, past or present, were brought to life last week as the Middle School students dressed up in character to tell their life story. The Elizabeth MacFarlan Centre had been transformed into a hub of bustling activity as family and friends gathered to hear the students’ recite their carefully prepared speeches.

The presentations were part of an afternoon dedicated to honing the students investigative research, speech making and confidence building skills that were not only informative, but also entertaining and full of thought-provoking facts. Over the weeks leading up to the presentations the students were taught effective research methods, presentation skills and time management.

As the afternoon wore on and the visitors passing by each demonstration grew, so too did the students oral language skills, voice projection, stance, eye contact and memorisation. These were the attributes that the students were being assessed on as part of the English curriculum on research and speech making.
