Caring for Creation

This year’s theme for the Kids Friendly Love Reaches Out competition, is Caring for Our World. In Christian Education, we have been exploring the theme through writing, prayer, poetry and art. Year 4 have created a group entry, titled “Caring for Creation: Psalm 24”. We used only recycled materials to make and decorate the cross, symbolising creation. We hunted through our rubbish and recycling at home and at school to find egg cartons, bubble wrap, tissue paper, ribbons and other items which we could turn into our plants and animals. The Christian Education room turned into a storage mountain of reusable treasures! Even our cross was made from wood recycled from props from our last show and painted using leftover paint from the school fences. Year 4 are very pleased with their finished art work and have also had a chance to reflect on how we can make a difference by thinking of new ways to use old things. Chloe says, “We can make almost anything out of recycling” and Jeanna reflects that “We can use things we don’t need any more to make something really big and wonderful”.
