At the first water polo tournament of the season, the top Year 7 and 8 water polo teams from schools across Auckland came together over the weekend to compete for the coveted Winterfest A grade title – a title the Boys’ School were proud to win – for the second year in a row!
Plenty of practice had our swimmers well prepared which resulted in a clean sweep through the first round beating St Peter’s College, 16-0, drawing 5-5 with Remuera Intermediate and followed by another win 16-0 against Glen Eden.
At the next stage, they continued their winning streak beating Sacred Heart 4-3 in the quarter-final and Murrrays Bay 6-3 in the semi-final. In the final game, the boys commanded the game from the start beating Diocesan 11-3 to claim the title.
Will Bason was awarded most valuable player of the tournament and Teague de Jager the most outstanding player. Well done to Will and Teague and the rest of the boys in the team for a fantastic weekend of competitive play!
