Boys’ School Students Play Ball With Breakers!

Basketball players from the Boys’ School understand exactly what it takes to be a professional athlete following a trip to a New Zealand Breakers training session! The Boys’ School were awarded 10 places at the session in appreciation for the service activities we carry out, such as shoe banks and breakfast club. Reverend Reuben Hardie accompanied the keen Year 7 and 8 players to the Breakers training bunker on the North Shore. The trip started with the boys getting to watch a full Breakers training session. Our players were amazed by the intensity and physicality the Breakers put into their practise, starting with an extensive warm-up and finishing with plenty of stretching. All of the Breakers stars were at their best, with Cedric Jackson displaying his blinding speed, Mika Vukona leading the defence and Corey Webster showing why he was given an NBA trial.

After the Breakers had warmed down, they put the boys through some drills to improve their skills. Everard Bartlett and Reuben Te Rangi gave our players valuable techniques to help with their dribbling and ball control. Then it was time for to collect autographs on the Breakers balls they’d been given and snap a treasured ‘selfie’ with their favourite player. A big thank you to the Breakers organisation for welcoming our boys into their gym and sharing some of the secrets of their success!
