Boys' School Jazz at the Library

Toes were tapping at Remuera Library at lunchtime today when the Boys’ School Jazz Combo came together for a half hour lunchtime concert. In celebration of New Zealand Music Month, the boys had been invited to share their emerging talent. In introducing the band, the Librarian said that Music Month offers wonderful opportunities for both established and up and coming musicians.

As the boys got underway, those passing through lingered to listen. The Combo opened with a lively ‘George of The Jungle’ followed by a perennial favourite, ‘Sweet Caroline,’ conducted by Mr Ross Hurley. Each of the boys also presented a solo piece accompanied by Mr Edwin Randell on keyboard before the group concluded the concert with the old TV classic, ‘Hawaii Five O.’

In closing the concert, the Librarian praised the boys not only for their playing, but also the confidence with which each soloist introduced himself to the audience. Well done boys.
