The sporting exchange between Saint Kentigern College and Mt Albert Grammar School for both girls and boys was an idea hatched by Principals, Mr Dale Burden and Mr Steve Cole three years ago and has become a highlight of the winter sports calendar for the schools. Last Saturday, Saturday 27th June Saint Kentigern College was again host to Mt Albert Grammar for the annual winter sports exchange. Both schools would compete for the Burden Cole Trophy, for the school gaining the most points overall from fixtures played that day.

This year the teams competing were Premier Boys’ and Girls’ Football, Premier Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball, Premier Netball and 1st XV Rugby.

Every game was the signature tough contest between the two Schools. Mt Albert took the first 2 games in the Girls’ Basketball and Girls’ Football (3-1) but the Netball Girls had a great game and beat the current NZ Champions 29-28 to give Saint Kentigern their first points. Wins for 1st XV Rugby(17-10)  and the Boys’ Basketball gave Saint Kentigern a 3-2 advantage with the Boys’ Football to play. This game ended in a 3-3 draw which meant Saint Kentigern would win the trophy for the first time. The 1st XV Rugby Team also retained the Jubilee Cup which is a cup played for each year between the 2 Schools.

Congratulations to everyone who competed that day. It was a great day of sport for the Schools that are both in great sporting heart.
